California has become the first state in the United States to completely ban the sale and manufacture of animal fur products.

This ban went into motion on January 1, 2023. Consequently, the state is looking at a complete halt on fur trade within its borders.

However, this law applies only to the sale of new garments and pieces. Thrift stores, non profits and other second shops housing older pieces can still sell them. The ban also solely covers the use of animal fur and not other animal product like leather etc.

It is also still legal to wear fur in the state of California.
