A housing society in Kandivali, Mumbai, has harnessed electricity from rooftop solar panels to charge electric vehicles within the complex.
Attaining carbon neutrality at a time when most electricity is derived from fossil fuels is essential and this society has decided to walk the talk!
A member of the society, Hitesh Vakil, who owns an electric SUV, uses the EV charging point in the building compound. “There are significant cost savings compared to public charging points found at malls or petrol stations,” he said.
Charging his vehicle within the society only costs around Rs 600 for a full battery, as opposed to the Rs 1,050 he would have to pay elsewhere.
Furthermore, the power is not derived from polluting thermal power plants but instead a green and renewable energy source.
