Grit and passion have brought you to where you are today. What ignited the spark that put you on this journey? And what keeps you going?
Looking back on my career as a real estate developer, I remind myself of the dedication and passion that drove me forward. It wasn’t simply about having a big concept; it was about igniting that initial spark of inspiration and turning it into actionable steps. Much like an entrepreneur, I began with little more than a dream and a desire to achieve. I was fascinated by the exhilaration of possibilities but had little clarity about making my vision a reality.
With each hurdle, I became stronger and more determined. I engaged myself in market research, methodically crafted a business plan, and sought advice from mentors to help me turn my ideas into successful outcomes.
However, the journey of a developer is not without hurdles. Stress, uncertainty, and long hours put a strain on my inner strength. Despite a state of chaos, there were times of pure delight as I saw the results of my efforts develop into thriving properties and dynamic communities. Throughout it all, I’ve learnt essential lessons about resilience, tenacity, and the power of will. Success, I learnt, is not just a goal, but also a path marked by loyalty and firm commitment. What drives me on is the deep purpose of producing something of true value, improving lives, bringing communities back to life, and leaving a lasting legacy.
Any lessons you’ve learnt from a mistake in your career? How has that helped you move forward?
Failure is often said to be the best teacher, yet learning from our mistakes is only half the battle. To fully learn from our mistakes and become better professionals, we must be willing to share our experiences with others and take advantage of the unique insights that emerge from our setbacks.
I’ve met multiple setbacks, each of which has taught me significant lessons that have pushed me forward. One example sticks out: A project could not achieve the desired goals despite rigorous planning and implementation. It felt like a major setback at that time, testing my toughness and perseverance.
However, it was also a watershed moment regarding personal development and reflection. Through self-analysis, I discovered areas for improvement, including strategy, decision-making, and execution. This mindset shift has since shaped my approach to leadership and decision-making. I’ve grown more open to input, paying close attention to different points of view, and willing to alter my mind when necessary. Furthermore, it has instilled a sense of humility, reminding me that no matter how experienced or knowledgeable one is, there is always opportunity for progress.
Which characteristic defines you as a solid leader?
My unalterable dedication to ethics is what characterises me as a credible leader. Integrity is the foundation of my leadership philosophy. Integrity fosters a culture of respect and accountability, both among my team and with outside parties. Integrity enables me to uphold the ideals and beliefs that the Nahar Group represents, even in the face of adversity.
You obviously have strong roots, which has helped you reach for the stars. Please share insights into your professional network and support system.
I am fortunate to have a broad professional network and a strong support system that have helped us achieve new heights in the real estate market. Our professional network includes several stakeholders such as industry experts, business partners, investors, and government officials. These relationships have been developed over decades of committed effort and have played an important role in our capacity to negotiate complicated market dynamics, discover strategic possibilities, and form mutually beneficial collaborations.
Within my professional network, I’ve developed significant relationships with colleagues who have similar career interests and goals. These relationships provide a sense of community and collaboration, allowing us to exchange thoughts, brainstorm ideas, and support one another’s efforts. Through industry events, conferences, and online groups, I’ve broadened my network, and stayed current on industry trends and advances.
With a strong foundation of meaningful relationships, mentorship, and industry contacts, I am prepared to face difficulties, explore opportunities, and continue to grow personally and professionally.
How do you use your influence as a leader to empower other women?
The synergy created when women support and uplift one another is a force that not only shatters the glass ceiling, but also reshapes the narrative of female leadership.
Yet while traditional mentorship can be a powerful motivating force, the most effective and empowering mentors go a step further, taking an active role elevating those around them. Guidance and support can give aspiring women leaders the skills they need to thrive in a leadership role, but to actually get the chance to take on such roles, they need someone in a position of power who is willing to give them the opportunity. This is another key way that women leaders can empower other women leaders – by serving as a career investor who recognises other’s potential, seeks out opportunities to highlight that potential, and puts something of value on the line to give them an opportunity.
The ripple effect of women leaders empowering other women leaders is far-reaching, fostering a culture of collaboration, empathy, and resilience. By encouraging women to believe in their potential, embrace leadership opportunities, and navigate the often complex terrain of career advancement, female leaders pave the way for a future where the gender gap narrows, and the impact of women in leadership becomes an undeniable force for progress.
Personally, I actively endeavour to create opportunities for women in my organisation. By recognising their potential and investing in their careers, I guarantee they will have opportunities to demonstrate their skills and talents in leadership positions. This strategy benefits both the person and the corporation as a whole.
