The Navi Mumbai International Airport is just what the busy city needs. The officials building the airport said in a statement that the airport would be fully functional by December 2024.
The construction of the airport requires pre-development work including a diversion of the Ulwe river, building up of voltage lines, hill cutting and land resurfacing.
The airport will be linked to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Andheri via a metro line. The first phase of the airport will be able to handle 10 million flyers, going up to 90 million in its final phase.
The estimated cost of construction is ₹16,700 crores.
