Liz Truss officially resigns as the UK Prime Minister after one of the most brief and chaotic tenures in British history.

After a short period of 44 days, Truss decided to vacate her seat due to the disastrous impact she had on the country’s economy. She came to power in early September after promising massive economic growth.

However, her program and the financial markets were drastically incompatible. The pound royally tanked and she left the ruling Conservative Party in a terrible position. “The damage they have done to our party is extraordinary,” said veteran Tory MP Charles Walker to BBC.

Her successor will now become the party’s fifth premier in less than seven years since the 2016 Brexit referendum. It has been reported that the party will choose her successor within a week and that Truss will stay on as Prime Minister until then.
