The 74th annual Primetime Emmy Awards took place at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California. These awards celebrate the people of the creative and performing arts community.
Few memorable moments of the night included — South Korean actor Lee Jung-jae made history by snagging the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role in the hit Netflix show, ‘Squid Games’. This win made Lee the first actor from a non-English language series to win an Emmy.
Grammy-winning musician Lizzo won the Best Competition Program for her show ‘Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls’. This marked the musician’s first Emmy Award. Moreover, actress Sheryl Lee Ralph also made history by becoming the second black woman to win an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Both Lizzo and Ralph, in their speeches, spoke about the importance of inclusion. Ralph received a standing ovation at the end of her speech; a definite must hear!
The recipient of the Governor’s Award, Geena Davis, took the stage to talk about gender equality in the media and how there’s still much more work to do in the future.
Lastly, none other than the incredible Zendaya won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Euphoria. She made history yet again by becoming the
youngest person ever to win in the leading acting categories twice.
