Early this week, Elon Musk started a new system on Twitter wherein people with an Apple ID and a phone number could pay US$7.99 a month to obtain a blue tick verification.

Musk wrote, “Power to the people! Blue for $8/month.” He proceeded to call the old method of verification a “lords and peasants system.”

However, as soon as it was initiated, impersonators took over and misused the new update. Many politicians, celebrities and companies including Tesla and SpaceX, became the target of these impersonators.

Matters got rather chaotic and out of hand, leading to an overload of misinformation, causing Twitter to suspend the new tool. It has and will henceforth be paused until further notice.
