Jacinda Ardern cites how “difficult the last 6 years have been for her” as Prime Minister of New Zealand.
She became the youngest female head of government in the world when she was elected Prime Minister in 2017, at 37.
She spoke about how taxing the events of the world and within the country have been for her to maneuver, saying: “These events… have been taxing because of the weight, the sheer weight and continual nature of them. There’s never really been a moment where it’s ever felt like we were just governing.”
Ms Ardern will step down by February 7, 2023.
